Battle for Lukid 2

Back in September, there was a battle for Lukid in Israel. Now Sharon is leaving the party to form a more "centrist" party. Once again, watch for Netanyahu. With the tensions rising about Iran, and the whole Middle East for that matter; the Israeli people will revert to the person they think will protect them with the most veracity. I do in some ways admire Nentanyahu. He speaks his mind and does not mince words. He has the cahonies to do what is required to protect his country. But that in the end may just ramp up the inevitable. The confrontation between Muslims and the Jewish people will escalate into war. The matter is not if but when.

History Lesson

  • 1918-19, "Spanish flu," [A (H1N1)], caused the highest number of known influenza deaths: more than 500,000 people died in the United States, and up to 50 million people may have died worldwide. Many people died within the first few days after infection, and others died of complications later. Nearly half of those who died were young, healthy adults. Influenza A (H1N1) viruses still circulate today after being introduced again into the human population in the 1970s.
  • 1957-58, "Asian flu," [A (H2N2)], caused about 70,000 deaths in the United States. First identified in China in late February 1957, the Asian flu spread to the United States by June 1957.
  • 1968-69, " Hong Kong flu," [A (H3N2)], caused about 34,000 deaths in the United States. This virus was first detected in Hong Kong in early 1968 and spread to the United States later that year. Influenza A (H3N2) viruses still circulate today.

Bird Flu

Is this just a bunch of Hype? Stories after stories about the avian flu.... And now some fuel for conspiracy theories... The President has asked for permission to use the military to quarantine regional sections of the country in case of a pandemic.... Story Here.

On line pharmacies are selling anti flu medications... Is it wise to purchase some insurance just in case?... Example Here.

$500 Steak?

Did you know that some people pay BIG bucks for a good steak? Wow… I did not know that! In a past life I was a waiter in a high end restaurant…. I know that beef quality can vary greatly… And when I have additional discretionary money to spend I love to get a couple of nice filets from a meat shop. (nice cuts of meat are not in any grocery store).

But I had not heard of Kobe style beef. Kobe beef is a extremely high quality beef from the Kobe region of Japan. The beef is from the Wagyu breed of cattle.

It turns out that the demand is getting so great that the growers in Japan are having Wagyu cattle “custom raised” in America, then the carcass is shipped back to Japan for processing. The meat can then officially be called Kobe Beef.

Allen Brothers is a website I found. They have Kobe style beef, not the real thing. Four 10oz. filets are only $419.95 plus shipping. Quite a good deal I would think.

Battle for Lukid

Imagine if every time things were not going well a couple of Republican Senators decided that they no longer had confidence in President Bush, and with the help of a couple of democrat's constantly voted to see if they still wanted him in power. Perhaps if bombs were going off in Dallas, Jacksonville, and Atlanta we would have just that.

It sometimes seems as now a group of boys are all crying wolf. The End of Times folks always seem to state the NOW is the time. But now comes and goes. Now becomes then and a new NOW finally becomes the time. Still we do know the time will come; and Middle East politics can be much more interesting than our own because of the stakes involved.

If Nentanyahu again takes control of the process, he may see a narrow window of opportunity to advance the cause of his country before the political pendulum of the United States swings back to the more liberal Democratic party?

Be On Guard

"We know we're overdue for an influenza pandemic strain, and we know it will occur, but we don't know when or even exactly what virus will cause it," Dick Thompson, a WHO spokesman, told the New York Times. "It is possible that the virus won't be H5N1 at all or that this virus will change in a way so that the vaccine under development doesn't work against it."

Above is a quote about the possible Flu Pandemic that may sweep the globe. This is VERY possible. A new flu strain starts in Asia every year, it sweeps the Globe EVERY year. Basically one of the days the strain will be very deadly.... like 1918-1919. 50 Million people died. The flu is a virus....we still cannot stop viruses.

Something I didn't think about

Of course everyone now knows how Hurricane Katrina is now effecting gas prices... $3 a gallon now..And it could be $5.50 within months... But there is one thing I didn't think about...

New Orleans is the largest port in North America... 2/3rd's of ALL agricultural products in the U.S. are imported and exported there. There are millions of pounds of raw coffee beans that are wasting. This is the fall of the year when the national harvest is done...But how do we get the goods out of the country? How do we get the goods into the country? Will bananas be available at the supermarket in two weeks?

The cost of all goods will not only be impacted by the cost of gasoline.. But foods in general will be sharply effected across the board.

This is a time you may someday discuss with your grandkids for a school project. Put on you seatbelts......just don't drive anyhere.

Just as our politics swings like a pendulum.... so does Israel. Sharon has given up sooooo much... And when the bombings still come.. Who will take over?...

The man that Hezbollah does not want in power..... I used to think that end times stuff was fluff.... Always...Since the year 70 AD... Someone has made a living off of the "end times". But, it seems as though now is as good a time as any....

Highschool Football

The summer is in swing...but around the corner is the high school football season. Most folks in Southern Kenton have ties to Simon Kenton or maybe Pendelton Co... Highschool football has always been an interesting subject. From the viewpoint of having gone through the system 20+ years ago I have certain ideas.

For instance, why does Simon Kenton never have a dominate team? Over the years they have had very good basketball teams.... and no one could doubt the success of the wrestling program could they?

Is there something in the water in Ft. Thomas that makes good football players? Do the Adults that live in 41075 have better genetics than the folks in 41051 & 41063? No... they have tradition and will... and along with that gives you better coaches and a few transfers each year that take them over the edge each season.

But...... are the times a changin'

Years and years ago when I was in Simon Kenton...we got our butts kicked by the good schools.. but each player knows their position on the field... meaning .. is this guy that much better than me...or is the system better...and the result of the play is the team working together..

I keep thinking that the time is coming when the south part of Kenton comes alive.... the houses are going up but more bodies do not mean a winning program... but

Many of the adults that now live in SC maybe went to Cov Cath or Highlands or a Cincy school with a great tradition... they don't believe that notion that SK is a perennial cellar dweller?

What about the success of Pendleton Co.?...

It all comes down to attitude...

The one thing that Cov Cath... Highlands..Beechwood.. and all successful programs have.

This is a great link... http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/

You can get schedules....pictures.. and talk about highschool sports in Ky... AND the site is locally owed and operated...this one is not a cookie cutter site from NY with a page for each state...

I know the webmaster pretty well.. I checked out his site and asked him....
Why no Simon Kenton?.... were are the pictures of my team?

he answered... "Win some games!"

Timing

Timing seems to be everything in some circumstances... The London attack will overshadow all news stories for the next week or so.... No one will care about the Dems attack on Bush's nominee or the latest tragedy of a missing child or women. I suppose sometimes it can be fortunate to have your gaffes happen at the right time..

The World Gets Stanger & Stranger.....

The denomination that is not a denomination has stated that as a denomination they should not ban same-sex marriage. But I thought they were not a denomination? In any case I thought we were supposed to read the bible (make sure you choose the correct translation) and come up to our own conclusions.....

Battle for the Nation's Soul?

With the retirement of O'Connor and Rehnquist soon to follow, the intellectual elite are all up in arms. Now we see how vital the last presidential election was. Our friends from across the pond are afraid we will "reverse decades of social accomplishments" . You will hear it implied over the next few weeks that Bush will appoint "radical right" judges who will turn back to making slavery legal and eliminate the rights of every pervert. Perhaps if Gore had been elected, we could look forward to Judges that would have the blessing of NAMBLA.

The BBC view of the events are interesting...

Can it be Over?

The Reds are currently 18 games behind the St Louis Cardinals.... are in the celler of the National Leauge Central, and only ahead of the Rockies in the Wildcard race.... A prediction here. The Reds will trade a big name outfielder (Kerns or Dunn), for a pitcher that no one has heard of, and a player to be named later. Then they will slowly battle their way back into finish the season in third place... and everyone will be waiting for next year.... There is one aspect of sports that I believe escapes most people... On any given day Half of the teams must loose...for half the teams to win... is life that way as well?

Start Off Here

Is Southern Kenton County worth writing about? Well lets hope so... This blog may not be written to a huge audience... but its a start, is it not?
